101 miles

I have walked 101 miles in 8 days.

Day 1: 16 miles
Day 2: 14 miles
Day 3: 13 miles
Day 4: 10 miles
Day 5: 12 miles
Day 6: 16 miles
Day 7: 15 miles
Day 8: 5 miles

My sincerest thanks to everyone who has walked with me and shared their stories.  I apologize for the poor sound quality, working on a good solution to the wind and distortion.

Over the weekend, friends came all the way from Joshua Tree and Tucson to help me in one of the hard sections of road from Winkelman to Globe. That section of mountainous road has no internet or cell reception and is too far to walk in one day.  We camped out in their RV each night and I got to walk without my pack… sweet relief.

Yesterday I only walked 5 miles, also without a pack.  Friends had driven up from Phoenix to join our campsite on Roosevelt Lake.  Saturday night we sat around the campfire sharing stories.  The next morning, we had a beautiful walk to Globe and on our way into town happened by a church with its doors open.  The minister was on the front steps… he prayed for me, arranged a free night in a local hotel and recommended a nice restaurant for lunch.  Grateful doesn’t cover how I feel.

Today I’ll stay in Globe and plan my next section of road.  I need to find places to stay and people to walk with me for the next 100 miles… a daunting task.

I’ve made it this far.  I just keep asking for help and receiving it. Each day filled with kindness, grace and the beauty of this landscape, my desert home.

Love,

-Laura
